Absorbing and being touched by beautiful things, learning, assimilating and learning again,Chloé Kelly Miller is like a young Gargantua accumulating knowledge and never full of it. She was born
in 1995 and in Rouen, at the age 18 decided to be guided by her visceral need to express beyond words and while looking for the key to let her inner self outflow, she found it in art history and
the artists who touched her so much.
In order to do this, she had to broaden her horizons, discover the different artistic currents and the great works of Basquiat, Da Vinci, Mapplethorpe, Verlaine, Picasso... Assimilate the essence
of their works, the idea, the emotion they transmit, not through the study of their technique and tools (Chloé Kelly Miller is self-taught) but, through the reading and analysis of their
paintings, photos, verses, biographies...
Her personal style emerges...
First through the prism of photography, in particular with self-portraits, like a mirror to be confronted, displayed to the gaze of others through the social networks.
Then very soon through paintings of abstract art, using everything she finds: some tubes of paint, primary colours, spraypaint to tag, without looking for more sophisticated tools.
She just has to physically exteriorize herself through the action and the material: projecting her energy on the canvas, on the wooden board or the wall of her room.
By decoding what arose from the intimate to the emotional in the artists, Chloé wanted to understand what inspired them and allowed herself to go beyond the idea of being liked or disliked. She triumphed over "the little inner voice that inhibits" to let herself be surprised by herself, to create and accept an invitation to an encounter with herself.
Today, Chloé, at almost 25 years old, is sharpening her artistic style between two psychology courses and the preparation of her dissertation. Living in Paris, she is developing a busy and daily
creative practice, as natural and vital as breathing.
Over the days and years, these creations have built up an instagram account that has been widely followed and acclaimed, fueled by a myriad of multifaceted visual creations inspired by her
beautiful friendly and human encounters in Paris.
Passionate and relentless, all-rounder prolific...
Fueled by a 360-degree culture, from classical to street art, her skin bears witness to this, where Charles Beaudelaire's hedonistic exhortation «Enivrez-vous» (Get drunk) and Keith Haring's
emblematic heart are inked.
Her work has charmed several urban art galleries specializing in the promotion of emerging artists: Outsiders gallery (in Rouen, Lyon and Enghien les bains), Guy Pensa gallery and Castart
urban gallery.
She also collaborates in charity initiatives by painting her colourful characters not only a truck but also an 18-metre wall and many other projects that are on the horizon of deconfinement.
It is in her studio-workshop on the roofs of Paris...
In the République neighborhood, in the lively and vibrant 11th arrondissement, I met Chloé again on a rainy Sunday morning in December to capture in a more relaxed way the creation of an
important painting in her career, the link between two series that brought her into the gallery network: Introspection and Dépersonalisation, that I invite you to discover here among her other
works.
The main idea of this meeting: a live painting in the artist's studio.
Juggling between mediums, markers, spray cans, pastels, according to her impulse and her instinct, she created a powerful work and marked her canvas with a word that she makes it a point to
express, as if to cut the cord, like a cry that comes out of the heart and speaks with the voice of the brushes.
